The Australian Surf Coach Martin Dunn - https//:www.martindunn.com.au - has over 30 years of experience in surf coaching, trains the Australian National Team and works together with surf professionals.
A proven tool in his surf training is the use of surf skateboards. Martin Dunn uses surf skates to teach surfers the correct technique and posture on land.
In summary, Martin's surf training approach looks like this:
- record video from surfing or take photos from surfing
- error analysis based on the image material
- correction of technique and posture on the surf-skateboard
- practice, practice, practice on the surf skateboard until the movement becomes flesh and blood
- hit the water and use your new moves!
Surftraining with the Surfskate
In the following video Martin Dunn analyses two young advanced surfers. The two guys are not bad surfers, but they have typical problems, which every surfer will encounter sooner or later:
- Generating speed
- Bending of the body
- Surf only in the middle of wave instead of surfing top to buttom
- Soft turns without power
Surf Analysis and correction with the Surf-Skateboard
Maybe some of you will recognize yourself here. Martin Dunn corrects the movements and sends the boys on the surf skate for dry runs until the movements are sitting without thinking.
