Skateboard Selection Guide

The two decisive factors for the right size of skateboard are the wheelbase and the width of the skateboard deck. A shorter wheelbase makes it easier to turn the skateboard and turns are easier in general. A wider skateboard shape makes it easier to position and place the feet and offers more stability when skating.

The tables above are used to select the right skateboard for children or teenagers.

Adults usually skateboards with a wheelbase between 14.2" and 14.7". The width of the board varies between 8.25" and 10" for adults and depends on shoe and body size as well as personal preference and use. In general, slightly wider boards are easier to ride and offer more stability, especially in the bowl or mini ramp.

Surfboard Selection Guide

A surfboard must offer enough buoyancy so that you can paddle comfortably, start waves and land safely on the board during take-off. A surfboard that is too small will be no fun if you suddenly only get two waves per surf session. Conversely, the surfboard shouldn't be too big for you either. After all, you want to reach the next surf level, practise turns or learn the duck dive.

A very good indicator of which board suits your surfing level, your weight, your surfing experience and your surfing fitness, is the volume of the surfboard measured in liters.

Use the tables above to find the right volume for you.

Bing Copeland began surfing at the Manhattan Beach pier in 1949 at age 13, and by the fall of 1959 he had opened his first surf shop with his friend Rick Stoner. Bing Surfboards quickly became one of the most influential surfboard manufactures of the sixties and early seventy’s, renowned for its expert craftsmanship. From his magic nose riders for legends like David Nuuhiwa, to his work with the Campbell Brothers and the introduction of the Bonzer, one of the most unique and enduring designs of the 60’s, his influence on surfing is profound. Bing Surfboards has gone through many changes throughout the years, but it has always remained true to the roots of surfing. Under the expert guidance of master shaper Matt Calvani, Bing Surfboards continues to refine classic nose riding boards and create innovative modern surf craft. Their logo remains one of the most iconic and recognizable in all of surfing, and Carver is proud to collaborate with such an icon.
